CONCORD, N.C. — James McGoye, 85, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2012 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, N.C.

He was born on Aug. 3, 1926 in Piedmont, W.Va., son of the late Patrick Joseph McGoye and Leota Edith Johnson McGoye. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John Thomas McGoye; his sisters, Theresa McGoye F

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Anna Lois McGoye; daughters, Sheila Anne Anderson, Patricia Carol Dukette, Amy Marie Powell and husband Tim L. Powell of Concord, and Mary Ellen Petitt and husband Gregory Brian Petitt of Stafford, Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Paul McGoye and wife Rebecca McGoye of Tampa, Fla.; and sister Sara Murray of Ormond Beach, Fla.

After serving in the U.S. Army, James graduated from the University of West Virginia in 1950. He spent most of his life working for various departments within the federal government, retiring in 1982. He spent the last 20 years making Concord his home.

He was a rich man, but not monetarily speaking. He was rich in his faith. He was rich in tradition. He was rich in family values. He was rich in the sense that he was loved by many. Respected. Trusted. Adored. He had wisdom and laughter. He had character. He had integrity and generosity. So yes, he was a very rich man indeed. He leaves a legacy of love and many wonderful memories. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 made payable to HPCCC.

A private celebration of James' life will be held at a later date.
