Juanita was adopted by Lon & Maude Barnes after Juanita's mother, Edna Lee DeLoach Anderson died. Juanita was about 3 years old. Maude was Edna's oldest sister.

Aunt Edna became very sick and knew of her coming death, though we have never learned of what the illness was. Uncle John L. at the time was a bit on the wild side and liked to drink some, but he always took care of Edna and Juanita, taking pride in the pretty baby girl he had been given. Later in life, he became a Baptist preacher.

Sometime during her illness, Aunt Edna had asked her older sister Maude to please look out for Juanita. Aunt Edna died when Juanita was only around 3 years old. Instead of just making sure Juanita was ok, Aunt Maude took her away from Uncle John L. and adopted her. Uncle John L. didn't have the money to fight her.

The sister that is mentioned in the obituary, Linda, was also adopted. Linda was the daughter of Marie Louise Moody, Aunt Maude's great niece.

Aunt Maude was the oldest sister of my G-Grandmother, Willi Jo DeLoach Moody

At this time, I have not located the burial place of Aunt Maude, though her obituary shows she was living in Knoxville, TN when she died on July 1, 1989. If and when I find it, I will include it on this memorial. Uncle Lon is buried in Savannah, GA
