The 1920 U.S. Census states Fred was 8 years old with 6 older siblings (including a set of twins about a year older than him - a boy and a girl) and 4 younger siblings. His parents were John Wesley Bentley and Jennie B. Bentley. At that time, the family lived in School District #4, Wheatland, Montana.

The 1930 U.S. Census states the family lived in Post Falls, Kootenai County, Idaho. Fred was 18 years old with 3 older siblings and 5 younger siblings. Fred worked as a U.S. Forest Service Ranger at that time.

Fred married Mary (Margery) Arnold in Moscow, Idaho and they made their home in Wallace (Woodland Park), Shoshone County, Idaho at #222 Main Street.

He and Mary had six children who all survived well into adulthood. One daughter was the first to go to heaven-side in joining them and her remains were placed at rest near them, along side her husband's, Mr. May.

There are also at least 5 other Bentley family members' remains resting at Forest Cemetery near one another: Fred's parents Jennie & John, and his siblings Walter, Elton, and Doris.
