JACQUEZ -- Maria Mannalita de Atoche (Nellie) Aranda-Jacquez age 86, a resident of Belen peacefully joined our Lord and Savior on April 13, 2004.

She was an active member of the Court of Belen Catholic Daughters, Saint Vincent de Paul, Eucharistic Minister of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church as well as the Spanish Choir. She was also a member of the Valencia County Extension Club.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, painting, ceramics and crocheting. Nellie was a cook for the Belen Public Schools for many years. She was born in Colorado on April 17, 1917.

Nellie married Jose de la Cruz Jacquez in 1937, they moved to New Mexico in 1953.

She is preceded in death by her parents Cristino and Matilda Vigil Aranda; her loving husband of 64 years, Jose de la Cruz Jacquez on September 8, 2001; her brothers Cristino, Lee, and Frank Aranda; daughters, Patricia, and Annalee; one son, John.

Nellie is survived by 2 sisters, Mary Romero and Ernestina Castro; children, Joe Jr., Barbara Garcia, Patsy Castillo, Rita Robinson and Ron Jacquez; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was provided special, loving care by 4 wonderful caregivers, Carol, Kathy, Belinda and Donna and hospice nurses and aides.

All services will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a visitation at 6:30 p.m. to be followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2004. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. with interment following at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Schon, Ronnie, Mark, Gary and Joey. Honorary pallbearers will be Nellie's granddaughters. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen.
