Dr. Michael John Healy

Our beloved Michael John Healy passed away of natural causes on Sunday, February 19, 2012. He was born to Leah Fotheringham and Clifford Wayne Healy in Ogden, Utah on March 30, 1947. He married Jan Kathleen Garrard in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 21, 1971. They were later divorced, but ever remained best friends.

Mike served an LDS mission in South Korea. He received a B.S. from Weber State College and an M.D. from George Washington University Medical School in Washington D.C. He then completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Following that, he served as an Army physician in Bremerhaven, West Germany. He then returned to the Ogden/Davis area and set up his OB/GYN practice.

Michael was a loving father and grandfather, who treasured time with his family during Sunday dinners and annual vacations. He was also a devoted son to his dear mother, Leah.

Mike had a grand sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes. He had a unique laugh that was immediately recognizable to all who knew him. He wouldn't watch a movie without a bucket of buttered popcorn on the side. Grape Ambrosia was his favorite ice cream flavor.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved scouting, backpacking in the Uintahs, hiking, falconry, scuba diving, and nature photography.

Dr. Healy loved his job and delivered around 6,000 babies in his 30 years of practice. He was a dedicated doctor to his patients and had a great time joking with them and their families. He felt his office staff was his second family and greatly valued his relationships with them.

Our dear, sweet Popsy will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Michael is survived by Jan Healy, his children, Sarah (Jon) Vance, Mike (Shelby) Healy, Nate (Robin) Healy, Libby (Peter) Kleyn, Tim (Jamie) Healy, Jill (Michael) De Haan, Missy Healy (currently serving an LDS mission in New Jersey), and 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Leah Healy, brother Tim (Collette) Healy, and sisters Sandra (Dan) Heer, Diane (Ron) DeVries, and Marcia (Paul) Denham. He was preceded in death by his father C. Wayne Healy.

Funeral Services will be held at the Ogden Weber Stake Center, 5855 South Skyline Drive in South Ogden on Saturday February 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held at the Church on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Interment will be in the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
