He became active in the Detroit music scene in the early 1960s, and was a potent force behind the scenes, writing and/or producing many hit songs such as the Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together," Junior Walker's "How Sweet It Is," "What Does It Take," and many others. As a solo artist, he had a hit in 1974 with the song "Hang on in There Baby."
