Mother Clara Sands, RSCJ, is the daughter of Admiral James Hoban Sands and Mary Elizabeth Meade. Clara entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in Pressbaum, Wien-Umgebung, Austria 4 OCT 1896. She made her final vows on 6 FEB 1906 at Kenwood, Albany.

Mother Sands taught for many years at Eden Hall (Convent of the Sacred Heart) in Torresdale, PA. Initially she was buried in Eden Hall Cemetery, but her remains were later transferred to St Joseph Cemetery in 1973, after the closure of Eden Hall.
