Luther DeLavergne Landon, son of Renselaer B. & Loretta Sizer Landon was born 15.5.1884 in Kennebec Commnity on Landon farm south of Russell in Russell Co, Ks., he was the fourth child and second son, grew to manhood on Landon Homestead on the bank of Landon Creek which was so named by the first homesteaders in 1871. His father and grandfather Luther Landon was among the Wisconsin Colony that came to this community who crossed the Smoky River before choosing a homestead. he received his Elementary education in the Kennebec school, later taught same school two terms, followed the teaching profession five years. On 5 Jan 1915 married Miss Dora Alice Cooper and four children born, of which two sons Wayne C., age 3 and Vernon T., age 28 preceded him in death.

Retired from farm 1928 and from that time engaged as an underwriter for New York Mutual Life Ins. Co., member Russell Rotary Club, member Trinity Methodist Church and several yrs member church choir. He loved his Church and its many activities and was always ready to lift his share of its load.

Luther will be greatly missed by his relatives, many friends and civic leaders of Russell. He was born 15 May 1884 and died 9 Aug 1961. Survivors include his wife; son Robert B. Landon, Los Angeles, CA; dau Mrs Doris M. Hanson, Juneau, Alaska; sister Mrs Mabel Plumer, Downs, Ks.; 5 grand; 10 nephews and nieces.

Funeral at the church Fri 11 Aug. at 10am with Rev H.C. Atkins, Hays. Music by the church choir:" In My Father's House Are Many Mansions", and " We May Not Climb The Heavenly Steps". He was buried in the Russell City Cem. Casket bearers: William Maag, Joe Gross, Ben Rein, Wilmer Landon, Oscar Ralph, George Phillip; honorary casket bearers: W. C. Morris, Sr,; C.W.Shaffer; Don Himes; Lloyd Littleton; Charles Graham; Karl Newacheck Sr,; Sam Scott; O.L.Stevenson; Russell Mortuary & Memorial Chapel, Mr & Mrs D.J.Helm, Russell.
