Julia arrived in America in 1863. She was likely married to Mr. Kunisch(sp?) at the time. She and Mr. Kunisch had a daughter, Anna A (Kunisch) Wolf (Sept 11, 1865-March 19, 1934). It is presumed that Mr. Kunisch passed away shortly thereafter. Anna married William Wolf and they eventually settled in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Julia married August Schwope on February 6, 1868, in Buchanan Co, Missouri.

Julia Schwope was born January 8, 1842, in Schurgast, Silisia, Germany. In the year 1863 she came with her first husband, Mr. Kunisch, to this country and made her home in Doniphan county, Kansas, where through his death in 1867 she was left a widow. On February 6, 1868, she was married to August Schwope and lived in happiness with him for forty-two years. They lived on the farm, three miles west of Wathena, for thirty-two years, and about the last ten years here in Wathena. For the last nine years she suffered with heart disease that defied the physician’s skill and at times her pains were very great and often her death was expected.

In 1868 Sister Schwope joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, and under the administration of Rev. Charles Harms she was converted to God. Her Christian life was in harmony with her testimony and she made proper use of the means of grace. Ministers of the gospel were always welcome in her home. To her husband she was a true help-mate, for she not only shared joy and sorrow with him, but also hard work. As a loving mother she prayed often for her children, and with the help of God she raised them up for a better world. She bore her sufferings with patience and looked forward to death in the hope of everlasting life. She many times remarked that her heart disease would be the cause of her death; so it was realized in the early morning of January 23, 1910, fifteen minutes after 4, when her heart suddenly ceased beating. The day before she had accomplished her house-work and retired as usual in the evening, but it was the will of God that she should not awaken in this world, but in Heaven. Her end came without pain and without a struggle, as it could not be wished any better. She reached the age of 68 years and 15 days.

Her matrimony was blessed with five sons and five daughters. One son died as an infant and nine years ago she buried her son Paul, who died at the age of 31 years. Besides her bereaved husband there stood by her casket the three sons, Adolph, William and Oscar and the five daughters, Anna, Ida, Bertha, Augusta and Minnie. Besides the above, she leaves to mourn her death twenty-one grand-children, one sister and many relatives and friends.

The funeral sermon was rendered by Rev. F. Reichardt in the German Methodist church, to a large audience. He was assisted by Reverends Deglow, Byers and Fiegenbaum. Interment was made in the Bellemont cemetery.
