Blanche M. Nichols, 89, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7:25 a.m. in Salem Crossing. She married March 19, 1947 to Volney "Buster" Nichols, who passed away Jan. 27, 1971. She retired in 1988 from the old Washington County Memorial Hospital and was a member of Mt. Hebron Church Of Christ. Born April 13, 1922 in Vallonia, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mellie (England) Babbs. Survivors include: son, Rick (Teresa) Nichols, Salem; daughter: Margie Wingler, Salem; two sisters: Gladys (Frank) Stephens, Salem and Mary Bowman, Scottsburg. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dawalt Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Morgan officiating. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday. Interment at New Hope Cemetery near Scottsburg.
