Warren Everett Cox, Russell, son of Emery M. and Edith (Alexander) Cox was born Aug. 7, 1921, at Leavenworth, Kan. His death occurred Dec. 23, 1992, in the Russell (Kan.) Regional Hospital at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Mr. Cox lived his early life in Oskaloosa, Kan., graduated from high school there, and for a time attended the University of Kansas at Lawrence.
During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corp as a radio operator on a B-17, flying 38 missions over Germany.
On Dec. 15, 1947, he was united in marriage to Margaret J. Lansdon at Rock Springs, Wyo., and to this union was born two children, Connie and William E.
In 1949, when the Russell Flight Service Station began operations, the family moved from Rock Springs to Russell. Mr. Cox worked at the Flight Service Station here until 1977, when he retired from the Federal Aviation Administration, having 33 years of government service.
He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240 of Russell and was a member of the Russell Elks Lodge. His early church affiliation was with the Methodist Church at Oskaloosa.
Those preceding him in death were his parents, Emery and Edith Cox.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret, of the home in Russell; daughter Connie James, of Larned; son, William E. Cox, of Kansas City, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Kendall. He had a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
His funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Dec. 26, 1992, from Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell with Rev. Glenn Tombaugh, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell, officiating. Ed Sewell was the soloist and Cheryl Line was the organist.
Burial was in the Russell City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Mullins, Marlin Alexander, Ted Montgomery, Gerald Morgan, Cecil Mashburn, Harry Schamp and Allan D. Evans.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Pohlman's Mortuary of Russell.
