Allen Leroy Bethany was born Oct. 6, 1904 at Yardale, AR. He lived in AR until 1917 when his family moved to Cleveland, OK. He was educated in AR and OK public schools.
On Oct. 31, 1924 Allen married Wilma Mary Quigley at Hominy, OK. Their marriage of almost 59 years was blessed with four children: Phyllis, Glenn, Darlene, and Donald (who died as an infant).
For most of his adult life, Allen, known as "Whitey" by his close friends, worked with the Gulf and Skelly Oil Companies in TX, OK, and KS. In 1940, Allen transferred from Seminole, OK to Russell, KS where he worked as a pumper until he retired in 1963, after 30 years of employment with Skelly Oil Co. An automobile accident in 1962 left him disabled and forced his early retirement in 1963.
Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Russell, KS and the Beulah Masonic Lodge of Bunker Hill, KS. Death occurred on Oct. 1, 1983, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 25 days. Members of his family who preceded him in death were his parents and two sisters.
Surviving members of his immediate family include his wife, Wilma, of Russell, S; a son Glenn, of Colo. Springs, CO; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Evans of Houston, T, and Mrs Keith (Darlene) Willson of Dickinson, TX; and six grandchildren and two gt. grandchildren. Other survivors of his family include: his step-mother, Florence Bethany, of Seminole, OK; a brother, Elmer Bethany, of Visalia, CA; a half-brother, Harvey Bethany, of Wichita Falls, TX; and a step-brother Guffrey Spears. of Seminole, OK.
Allen endeared himself to all who knew him. He loved his family and friends, and especially enjoyed times shared with his six grandchildren and 2 young gt. granddaughters.
