Edward J. Althoff, Jr., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at his homer. His wife and children were by his side. Ed was born on August 28, 1937, in Gettysburg, to Mary Riley Althoff and Edward J. Althoff, Sr. Ed served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1956 to 1958. He married Marion Speelman Althoff in 1960. She predeceased him in 2006. Surviving are a son, Doug Althoff and wife, Raquel of Biglerville; a daughter, Judy Sites and husband, Chris of Orrtanna; and seven grandchildren. He married Barbara Taylor Althoff in 2007, expanding the family to include three stepchildren, Debbie, Kim, and Ron; and six stepgrandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers and one sister, Robert Althoff and Gerald Althoff of Gettysburg, Kenneth Althoff and Donald Althoff of Orrtanna, Richard Althoff of Arendtsville, and Joyce Kroushour of New Oxford. Ed retired from Adams Electric Coop after 34 years. He was a member of the Gettysburg Foursquare Church for 25 years and most recently was attending First Assembly of God in York. Ed received a heart transplant in 1993, giving him a new zest for life, inspiring him to give back. He cofounded the Adams County Transplant Support Group. He was a volunteer with The Gift of Life donor program. He was a representative of the South Central PA Coalition for Organ Donation. He served on the American Heart Board of Adams County. He volunteered at the Apple Harvest Festival and the Cashtown Community Lions Club. Ed was deeply loved by family and friends.
