Ezra Lewis Slates, 76, of Kilgore died at his home about 4 a.m. Wednesday morning, (today) after an illness of three years. Born in Loudon Twp., April 15, 1879, he was the son of Franklin and Anna (Burrier) Slates and had lived his entire life in Carroll County. He was a retired farmer, member of the Loudon Twp. School Board for 12 years and treasurer of the Kilgore Methodist Church for 35 years where he was a faithful member.
Survivors include his widow, Carrie (Phillips) Slates; two daughters, Mary L. Scott of the home and Mrs. Charles Barnes of Attumwa, Iowa; one brother, Henry Slates of New Rumley; one sister, Mrs. Maud Kohler of Carrollton and two grandsons. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Kilgore Methodist Church with the Rev. S. H. Pollock and Rev. Paul Brodt officiating. Burial will be in Kilgore Cemetery.
