JAQUA -- In Dayton, Jan. 30, to the wife of J.H. Jaqua, a daughter.
Wife of JOSEPH RAYCRAFT JR., married December 12, 1892, at Dayton, Lyon County, Nevada, by Father O'Donnell, Rector of St. Patrick's Church at Gold Hill (marriage certificate, attached).
Mother of three children with Joseph: Francis Lorin Raycraft, George Edward Raycraft and James H. Raycraft.
Following her marriage to JOSEPH RAYCRAFT JR., Nellie moved to Carson City, where Joseph and his younger brother, James Andrew, owned and operated the successful Silver State Livery Stable, a large stage line in Churchill County and a prosperous real estate business. The brothers also owned valuable mining interests in the State.
Joseph Jr. died on June 28, 1907, in his home at Carson City from a stroke secondary to locomotor ataxia, a symptom of syphilitic myelopathy. He was buried in the Raycraft family plots in the Genoa Cemetery.
Following Joseph's death, Ellen continued living in Douglas and Lyon County, but by 1910, she was living in San Diego, California, with her mother, children, and second husband, SILAS NIHELL, whom she married in 1910 (1910 U.S. Census).
Following her mother's death in 1911 at San Diego, Ellen returned briefly to Dayton with her children to bury her mother in the Dayton Cemetery, and then continued on to San Francisco, where she remained until her death in 1944, at the age of seventy-six (1930-1940 U.S. Census). Her marriage to Silas was brief and ended in divorce, and by 1920, Ellen returned to her married name Raycraft (1920 U.S. Census). She never remarried and supported herself in her later years as a seamstress and home decorator.
