"One by one, the old "stand-bys" of Dayton drop off. Last week we were called upon to record the death of M.C. Hickey; this week, the death of J.H. Jaqua. He died Thursday afternoon at half-past three o'clock, of heart disease. His pains were of but a few moments duration when he laid down and expired. Mr. Jaqua came to this coast shortly after the California gold excitement in 1849-1850 and had been a resident of Dayton for nearly twenty years."
