Joe Hamer, age 74, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Hospice of Medina County Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 27, 1937 in Lewistown, PA. to the late Archie Grant and LoDema Mae (Buttolph) Hamer. Joe graduated from Medina High School class of 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and later the U.S. Army, serving his country proudly in Korea. He worked for National Disposer, Goodrich Tire and was a partner in The Video and Computer Place. He was a kind husband, an amazing father and a compassionate grandfather and most importantly the best of friends. He was a devoted Cleveland sports enthusiast. Joe never lost his loyalty, especially for the Cleveland Indians, ever hopeful for the coming season. He seldom missed a game. To this day and for years to come his name is etched in stone outside of Progressive Field, an appropriate symbol for such a loyal man.

He was the beloved husband of Judith Hamer (Peterson), to whom he was married 51 years; loving father of Victoria (Brian) Burley, B. Douglas (Michelle) Hamer, and Gwen August; dear grandfather of David, Christopher and Meghan August, and Erin Hamer; devoted brother of Betty (Bill) Bauman, Virginia Hinkel and Emma Brown.

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, February 22, at 12:00 Noon, at the Waite & Son Funeral home, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Lisa Morrison will officiate. Burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Family will receive friends Tuesday, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
