Joe Ed Scott, 85, of Bronte, passed away Monday, December 29, 2003, in San Angelo. He was born November 7, 1918, in Bronte to parents, Joseph Lee Scott and Margaret Ann Rodgers Scott and was the last survivor of eight children. His grandparetns were early day settlers to Coke County, arriving before 1890.


He was the owner operator of Scott Butane Company for 17 years. He served his country in the Navy Sea Bees, 91st SEABEES serving overseas in the Southwest Pacific and New Guinea. As a young man he was in the Civilian Conservation Corp in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.


Joe Ed married Wilma Roberts on November 15, 1947 at Robert Lee, Texas.


His wife survives him as well as his children, Brend, husband, Steve, Merritt Scott, DeWitt Scott, and Viva Caldwell; seven grandchildren; and three great grand-children. He is also survived by numerous nieces and newphews.


Visitation was held at Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte Wednesday 6 to 7 pm. Graveside services were conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Fairview Cemetery in Bronte. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
