Leander Mayhew died Tuesday, Oct. 13th of general debility at the home of his daughter Mrs. M. A. Williams, who has tenderly cared for him for several years.
He was born in town of LaFayette, Onandago County, N. Y., August 9th, 1818. His father was Levi Smith Mayhew, also a native of the Empire state and an early settler of Onandago County.
The decedent grew to manhood in his native state and in 1838, went to Illinois, where he remained two years, returning to New York. He was married on the 12th of November 1840 to Polly Kinney of Massachusetts.
In 1844 he moved his family to Wisconsin and settled in Waukesha County. In 1849 they removed to Osceola, Fond du Lac County, and in 1853 to the town of Greenbush.
Mr. Mayhew has done much during his long and useful life toward improving the country, besides improving five new farms. He built and conducted for number of years a cheese factory near his home until succeeded in the business by his son George.
He was a devout christian and a highly esteemed and, honored citizen a number of the Free Will Baptist church and of Greenbush Lodge No. 78, 1. 0. 0. F, which loses in his death its last charter member.
He is survived by three children, one daughter Mrs. M. A. Williams and two sons George C. of Plymouth and Melvin of California. One brother Alonzo of South Prairie and one sister Mrs. C. Webb of Ripon, several grandchildren and great grand children also survive.

The : funeral was held from the Free Will Baptist church in Greenbush on Monday, Rev. A. Q. Wilson officiating. Burial was made in the village cemetery under the auspices of the Odd-- Fellows by the side of his wife, who preceded him on the last journey over two years ago. The family have the sincere sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
