Burrough, or Burr was born on May 29, 1823 in Catherine Township, Schuyler County, New York. He was the son of Zachariah and Polly Hunt Beardsley. In December of 1846, he married Ann Louise Smith in Tompkins County, New York. This was one of several marriuages between the Smith and Beardsley families. Burr and Ann settled in Catherine Township, Schuyler County, New York and lived there the rest of their lives. Their common tombstone in Highland (Old Mitchell Hollow) Cemetery in Montour Township, Schuyler County, New York, reads: "Burr Beardsley died March 16, 1873 at 49 years, 9 months, 17 days, Ann Louise Smith his wife born 1826 died 1917".
Burr and Ann were married in 1846 and they had six children:
