Dr. Loughery, Stricken, Dies
Medical Society President Was Head of Departments of Mercy, Hackley Hospitals.

Dr. Harold B. Loughery, president of the Muskegon County Medical society and a widely known Muskegon surgeon since 1924, died at 6 a.m. today in Hackley Hospital.
He was 47 years old.

Dr. Loughery was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage early Friday and little hope for his recovery had been held since Saturday.

He was head of the department of surgery at Hackley hospital and head of the department of gynecology at Mercy hospital

Born in Illinois
Born in Palestine, Ill., on Sept. 14, 1896, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Loughery. He attended public schools in Illinois and entered the University of Illinois in 1915, graduating in 1919 with his bachelor of science degree. He received his doctor of medicine degree from the Illinois College of Medicine in 1922. In 1922 he served internship at the City and County hospital at St. Paul, Minn., and in the following year entered the department of industrial surgery of the Pullman company at Chicago.

Dr. Loughery came to Muskegon in 1924 and for three years was associated in general practice here with Dr. R. I. Busard. He left here in 1927 when he was granted a fellowship in surgery at the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn., but returned to Muskegon in 1931.

Wed Muskegon Nurse
He was married here to Miss Bertha Marie Clock, a registered nurse, on Oct. 16 1935. They established their home on Garber road, North Muskegon.

Surviving besides Mrs. Loughery are their two daughters, Mary Ann, six years old, and Lois Elaine, four years old. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Mary Maude Loughery, who lives at the son's home.

Dr. Loughery was a member of the American Medical Association, of the Michigan State Medical society, and was assistant director of the Muskegon County Medical Participating association.

Funeral service will be held at the Clock Funeral home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Samuel N. Oliver, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood.
