She was born March 19, 1928, in Sterling, Idaho, the daughter of Sherman Ulysess and Edna Sylvia Christensen Anderson. She received her education in Rupert and graduated from the Rupert High School in 1946. She married Raymond G. Simpson in a double wedding ceremony with her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Moon Rasmussen, on Oct. 31, 1947, in Rupert. Following marriage, she lived in Camanche, Iowa, where she raised her family. Once her children were grown and had left home, Janice moved back to Rupert, where she has since resided. Upon returning to the Mini-Cassia area, Janice worked as a well-known and loved waitress at Price's Cafe in Burley until her retirement.
Janice enjoyed gardening, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and coffee time at Forever Friends in Rupert, where she and her sister and best friend, Maxine, spent each morning. She was a very loving and kind mother, sister, grandma and friend. She truly never had a bad word to say about anyone. There is much to be learned from her example of integrity and dedication. Recently, Janice moved into Autumn Haven Assisted Living in Rupert, where she became close to all of the staff and her very close friend, Elsie. Thank you, Autumn Haven, for loving our mother like she was family. Janice will be missed so much!
She is survived by her children, Ray (Trudy) Simpson of Lake Charles, La., Jeff Simpson (Brenda Shoultz) of Camanche, Iowa, Randy Simpson of Anchorage, Alaska, Marcia Simpson (Craig Thompson, who was as close to a son as one could have) of Rupert, Greg (Lizbeth) Simpson of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Brad (Marcia) Simpson of South Ogden, Utah; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Maxine Rasmussen and Rodney (Violet) Anderson, all of Rupert, Shirley (Alan) King of Shelley, and Pat Dixon of Jerome.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Christine and Diane Anderson.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with her nephew, Stan Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery.
