Bernie Bonczek, age 97, of Ivanhoe passed away on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Divine Providence Nursing Home in Ivanhoe.

Bernie Bonczek was born December 24, 1911 in Royal Township of Lincoln County, to parents Ignatius "Nick" and Leokadia (Geldon) Bonczek. He was baptized, confirmed and received his First Holy Communion at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno where he was a lifelong member. He attended District 19 country school in Royal Township, and graduated with the Class of 1932 from Ivanhoe High School. Following school, Bernie farmed for many years, first on the family farm with his father and later on his own farm south of Ivanhoe. In the 1970's, Bernie moved to Ivanhoe where he did carpentry and painting. He was a careful workman who took great enjoyment and pride in his many woodworking projects.

He is survived by his sisters, Helen Bonczek and Josephine Bonczek both of West Allis, WI; his niece, Mary Richie of Land O'Lakes, FL; three grandnieces; two grandnephews; and seven great-grandnephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Joseph, Harry, John, and Walter; four sisters: Cecelia, Lucile, Mary, and Frances in infancy; sisters-in-law: Lucille Bonczek and Leona Bonczek; and a brother-in-law: Eugene Wilczewski.
