JON OWINGS

Jon Alan Owings, 70, resident of 106 Johns Creek Rd., husband of Jo Ransom Owings, died February 12, 2012 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Greenwood, April 7, 1941, he was a son of the late Paul C. and Willie Mae Holsonback Owings. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was formerly employed as a cost accountant with Greenwood Mills with 29 years of service and later retired from Homes and More.

A member of North Side Baptist Church, he was also a former Deacon, treasurer, Sunday School teacher and worked with the Special Needs children of the church.
Mr. Owings was a member of the Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club and was a Mason. He formerly served as a Boy Scout Leader, he formerly served on the Greenwood Planning Committee and was a former member of the Greenwood Lions Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years are a daughter, Angela Nelson McCraw and husband, Darren of Charlotte, NC; a son, Blake Owings of Greenwood; a nephew, Barry Hamilton and wife, Jill of Flowery Branch, GA; a sister, Estelle Knight of Greenwood; two brothers, Clyde Owings of Greenwood and Earle Owings and wife, Sharon of Belton; a sister-in-law, Kathy Ransom of Columbia; six grandchildren, Alana, Hannah and Nolan Nelson of Charlotte, NC and Bridget, Arden and Jo Kerri Owings of Greenwood; one great-grandson; three nieces and four nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at North Side Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Lethco and Rev. Bobby Owings officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Rick Aga, Jerry Bedingfield, Jimmy Butler, Joe Martin, Tom Stanton and Frank Waldrep.

The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 pm Wednesday.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening.

Memorials may be made to North Side Baptist Church, 409 Northside Dr. W., Greenwood, SC 29649 or to the charity of one's choice.
