...Richard was an organizer and Charter Member of the Newton Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Newton United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher, and a Board Member. ...Richard enjoyed many outside activities. He and Elaine enjoyed square dancing, which he started calling after High School. They also, enjoyed their cottage at Pine Lake for many years, as well as some traveling. He was a talented woodworker who enjoyed making, and refinishing things. Over the years he made many cherished items for his family, as well as, for the local church and grange bazaars. Richard was also, a very talented quilter, sewing many quilt tops on his mother's pedal sewing machine which were finished by many Grangers and given to charities. Until the past year, Richard loved to go out to eat and garage sales with his sister Bernadine and brother Roland. He loved to play cards, and like his father, was most happy at winning!
...Richard enjoyed his granddaughter, and great-grandchildren, as well as, his many family members, and friends. You could never spend just a few minutes with him as there was always a story to tell. His laugh and smile could win you over!
