She married Mark Emerine on September 12, 1914 in Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado. Zella was 15 years nine months and 17 days old when she got married to Mark who was 22.
Zella and Mark had four children: Melvin Robert Emerine (1915-1974), Galen John Emerine (1916-1993), Eleanora Francis Emerine (1918-1919), and Elaine Irene Emerine (1919-1989).
Zella and Mark were separated in 1928, which left her alone to raise her kids, (13, 12, & 9). Her divorce was not finalized until July 6, 1938.
Zella married Albert Johnson (1885 to 1973) on March 7, 1945 in Vancouver Washington, where she had gone to work and help in the war effort.
Zella moved back to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1976 after her second husband Albert died.
Zella died at the Laurel Manor care center on June 27, 1986 from shock consequence of gastric malignant lymphoma. Survivors include a son, Galen Emerine of Wellington; a daughter, Elaine Kerr of Colorado Springs; a sister, Mary Moberly of Colorado Springs; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Emerine.
