Obituary from Carroll County Times, 5 May 1955:

"Walter Augustus Barnes, 84, a former resident of New Windsor, died in the Melchor nursing home, Baltimore, at 9 p. m. Thursday, April 28, 1955. He had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Margaret L. Walter, 1114 East 36th Street, Baltimore, until stricken ill six weeks ago. He was born in Carroll County, a son of the late Gustavus and Lavina Hartsock Barnes, and belonged to St. Paul's Methodist
Church, New Windsor. His wife, Mary Lindsay Barnes, died six years ago. Surviving are three children, Mrs. Walter, Baltimore; Ralph G. and W. Ray Barnes, Westminster; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-
grandchildren, a brother, Harry E. Barnes, Cleveland, and a sister, Mrs. Grant Devilbiss, Baltimore.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Lewis Robson, at the New Windsor funeral home of D. D. Hartzler and Sons, Sunday at 2 p. m. Burial was in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near New Windsor. Pallbearers were William Fisher, Lester Shipley, Melvin Crawmer, Gordon, James and Walter Haines."
