"J. Edgar Barnes well-known retired
business man of New Windsor died at
the University Hospital, Baltimore,
Monday, July 9, 1945. Death was due
to coronary thrombosis after an illness
of three days. He was born February
17, 1867. in Carroll county, a
son of the late Gustavis and Lavinia
Hartsock Barnes, and was aged 78
years. Surviving are the following:
his widow, Mrs. Leah Ensor Barnes;
two sons, Roger E. Barnes, Washington.
D.C., and Edgar G. Barnes, Uniontown;
one sister. Mrs. Clifton G.
Devilbiss, New Windsor, and two
brothers, Harry A. Barnes, Columbus,
0., and Walter Barnes, New
Windsor. He was a director of the
Farmers and Mechanics Bank of
Westminster; a member and deacon
of the Presbyterian church for a
number of years, and was affiliated
with the I. O. O. F. Lodge of New
Windsor.
Services were held Wednesday at 2
p. m. at the late residence. The Rev.
J. Russell Gaar officiated. Burial was
in Pipe Creek cemetery. The pallbearers
were: Joseph Englar, Frank
Getty, William Hibberd, James Lantz.
Norman Myers and Philip Snader.
D. D. Hartzler & Sons, funeral directors."
