Helen Black

Helen Black, 92, of Mount Pleasant died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Nov. 17, 1915, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of Howard and Clara Routh Snyder. On Dec. 12, 1945, she married Carl R. Black in Fairfield. He died in 1984.

Mrs. Black was a homemaker. She worked at the Glove Factory in Fairfield. She graduated from Mount Union High School. She was a member of Libertyville Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant and United Methodist Women. She volunteered with Henry County RSVP. She enjoyed gardening, canning, growing indoor plants, sewing, quilting, crocheting and making crafts.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Black of Savannah, Ga., and Paul Black of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, her parents, two brothers, one sister and one half sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends.

The funeral for Mrs. Black will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.
