Hamilton was born at the Shell Orchard home of his parents John & Hannah. Of his boyhood days we know little. he was about 2 years old when the family moved to the Abrams Creek home. In his middle age memories of older folks describe him as a very dignified gentleman who, as a rule, said very little, but meant every word of it.

He enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who knew him during the more than half century he dwelt and toiled on his farm, located south of the forks of Abrams Creek and Glade Run, about three miles from Mount Storm, WV.

In 1888 Hamilton was laid to rest on the home place at a spot he had selected long before. In 1895 Mary was laid beside him.
