I was born in Keyser, Mineral County, West Virginia.

My parents are John Thomas Harvey & Faye Eliza Green.

My Father is the son of George Washington Harvey & Grace May Rawlings Of
Elk Garden, Mineral County, West Virginia.

My Mother is the daughter of Charles Samuel Green & Rosa Helen Sharpless
Of Sulphur, Mineral County, West Virginias.

John Thomas Harvey & Faye Eliza Green had two sons, Charles
(me) and Gary. Gary was born in Front Royal, VA. Gary was named after Mom's Doctor, Dr. William Eugene Lynn. Gary Lynn was adopted by Leon J. Hortch, My mother's second husband.
John was married twice, first to Faye Eliza Green. Second to Pauline Virginia Helmick. John and Pauline had four children,
Thomas Dewey Junior Harvey, Katherine Elaine Harvey, Paula Marie Harvey and Laura Frances Harvey.

My Family lines are Harvey, Hortch ( Hortsch ), Green (Greenhalgh), Dixon, Enlow, Gano, Kitzmiller, Liller, Lower, Lyon- Lyons, Moon, Sharpless, Stullenbarger, Schwinabart, Rawlings, Rinker, Rotruck, Tasker, Tichinell, Paugh, Barrick, Bray, Wilson, Bowman, Browing, Buffington, Ward, Leatherman, White, Welch, Iman, Junkins and more.

All of you Harvey's, Buffington, Green's (Greenhalgh), Wilson's, Dixon's, Kitzmiller, Leatherman, Rinker, Tasker, Sharpless's & Junkins's families that went West, welcome back to the Great State Of West Virginia and Maryland. Where Willian Harvey, Jr. and his wife Margaret Beall Harvey got this whole thing started. Sometime between 1794 and 1802, William Harvey, Jr., and his wife and at least four of his sons emigrated to Hampshire County, Virginia, now Mineral County West Virginia. On Sept., 10, 1802, he bought a one hundred and forty six acres farm for "seventy-five pounds current money of Virginia." This farm was located on a ridge running north and south between Emory Creek and what is now a road extending south between Emoryville to the Northwestern Turnpike. Today Emoryville is a small village of forty inhabitants, and is located about three miles south of Elk Garden, West Virginia. The cultivated part of the farm varied in elevation from 2,000 to 2,380 feet. The writer ( Marshall G. Brown ) had the pleasure of visiting this farm with George Wilson Junkins, who is a great great grandson of William Harvey, Jr. The original buildings no longer exist. The well where they procured their water is now covered over with concrete. At the very apex of the ridge is an ancient cemetery where no doubt William and Margaret Beall ( Bell ) Harvey were buried in unmarked graves.

Hampshire County was created in 1753 from Frederick County, Virginia, and named after the county of the same name in England. It is the oldest county in what is now West Virginia. Mineral County was created from Hampshire County in 1866, and was so named because of the rich mineral deposits within its borders.

It is easy to visualize the many hardships which these hardy pioneer settlers faced in settling in such a rugged country. Before the time of good roads and railroads, they had to be able to procure all of their essential needs, including food, clothing and shelter, from the materials at hand. This new land contrasted greatly from the land which they had left. Not only was it more rugged, it had a climate somewhat colder as a result of the higher elevation. In addition it was far from the centers of civilization.

At this time I like to give thanks to Thomas Wilson, III and Susanna "Susan" Bowman most of their daughters married Harvey Boys, it gave me a lot of Great Grand Aunts and a Great Grand Mother.

If a circle were drawn with a radius of twelve miles, with the White Methodist Church in Garrett County being used as the center of the circle, this circle would include the area where William Harvey, Jr., and his two sons Elijah and Rezin, and many of his grandchildren lived. Indeed, many of his descendants are now living in this area. The circle is crossed by two large mountains, namely Backbone and Allegheny Front, which extend across the circle in a northeasterly to southwesterly direction. The circle is bisected by the North Branch of the Potomac River. Some of the towns and communities included in this area are: Altamont, Bethlehem, Bayard, Blaine, Crellin, Deer Park, Elk Garden, Emoryville, Gormania, Kitzmiller, Loch Lynn, Mt. Lake Park, Mt. Zion, Mt. Storm, Oakland, Oak Grove, Pleasant Valley, Ryan's Glade, Shallmar, Shaw, Short Run, Steyer, Sulphur, Swanton, Thayerville, Vindex and Wilson. Of course at the time that William Harvey, Jr., came into this section the foregoing towns and communities didn't even exist. Throughout this file these towns and communities will be mentioned many times.

In 1827 William Harvey, Jr., sold his farm to his son Elijah. By this time he was eighty-three years of age. Perhaps because of his advanced years he wanted to put his affairs in order. He was not listed in the 1830 Federal census for Hampshire County as head of a family. He may have died by this time. No further information has been obtained concerning him. ( By Cousin, Marshall G. Brown )

(Note: CWH= Charles William Harvey- Born - Keyser, Mineral Co., WV is a Great, Great, Great grandson of Elijah Harvey.

In Oct. 2003 I took 2495 pictures of Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden, Mineral Co., WV and R. D. Dean I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden, Mineral Co., WV. I also took more pictures in cementers in Mineral County, West Virginia, Fulton County, Pennsylvania and Washington County, Maryland.
You can see my web site at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Harvey-2679. My Harvey Family is very large. If I were to print it out, it would be well over 2300 pages. That is just on my father side. My mother side, Green, short for Greenhalgh, because my great great grandfather, Dr. John Green change his last name from Greenhalgh to Green because people had a hard time saying Greenhalgh, would been about 1000 pages.
On my mother side, my grandmother Green, my great grandmother Sharpless, and my great great grandmother Dixon. My Mother remarried in 1950 to Leon Joseph Hortch ( Hortsch ) from Buckman, Morrison County, Minnesota USA. Find A Grave-189050750.
