William Abraham Sibley was a young son of Ira Taylor Sibley Sr. and Hester Americus Maples. He lived almost a month beyond his first birthday and was one of several infants that this couple lost in early childhood or right after birth. It's difficult to imagine the grief of losing so many children at birth or as young children.

According to a note from an immediate family member, his mother Hester gave birth to thirteen babies, and from the records, it's known that seven of the Sibley children survived past childhood.

Paternal grandparents were Mills J Sibley and Emma Virginia Cobb. Maternal grandparents were John Preston Maples and Eva Virginia Chandler.
