Jeanette Vinzant Hanna, a resident of Laurel, passed from this life on August 30, 2023 at the age of 84.

She was educated in Laurel City Schools, having attended Stone Deavours Elementary, Jones Junior High School and George S. Gardiner High School. She entered nursing school in June of 1956 at South Mississippi Charity Hospital in Laurel. After nursing for 12 years, she enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, earning her B. S. Degree in Education. Jeanette taught grades 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th for Laurel City Schools. She taught 7th grade in Jennings, LA, kindergarten and 2nd grade in Iota, LA, then went on to teach 5th grade at Northwest Rankin in Brandon, MS After retirement she tutored for a number of years from her home. She loved her Lord, family, friends and children of every age and color. She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was saved at the age of 12 and baptized when the church was known as Beacon Baptist. She taught Sunday School in many age groups, children's choir director and helped on various committees within the church. She was a church librarian for many years. She loved books and their many readers. She recently joined First Baptist Church Sharon where she was loved as a homebound member of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Preston (Pete) Hanna, parents Joe and Pearl Vinzant, sister Judy Vinzant Sanders, grandparents Elijah and Ellen Vinzant and Walter and Margaret Roberts.

She is survived by her three daughters Kathy Hanna Ingram and her late husband Jerry Ingram, Jenny Hanna Ishee and her husband Mark Ishee, all of Laurel and Amy Hanna Rowell and her husband Stan Rowell of Eagleville, TN and an only son Mark Preston Hanna and his wife, Angee Hanna of Puckett, MS. She had eight grandchildren whom she cherished, Adam and Aaron Ishee, Kandi Ingram, Matthew, Natalie, and Luke Hanna, all of Laurel and Hope and Daniel Rowell of Eagleville, TN. She was a great and loving mama and nannie to her children and grandchildren, including great grandchildren Kylie Johnson, Hanna Claire Ishee, Remy Lyles, Noah Ishee, Julianna Busby and Ila McDonald. She was also survived by her sister Jo Ann Vinzant Davis of Jackson, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She enjoyed visiting her family and friends far and near. She always lobbied for better education and greater appreciation of classroom teachers. She was a child advocate. Her hobby as she aged was feeding all God's little creatures that came to lunch with her on the patio. She loved writing about her loved ones. She kept a journal where she wrote about her dear family and many friends.

Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, September 2nd from 5 until 7 p.m. The service will be at Memory Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Matt Olson.
