Oren Carl Martin, 85, of Stonefort died Tuesday, June 24, 1997 at the V.A. Hospital in Marion

He was born in Stonefort on July 15, 1911, to the late Alvin and Nora Bell Dunston Martin.

He was a retired carpenter and a World War II Army veteran.

On Sept. 22, 1933, he married the former Helen Whitlock, who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1976.

Surviving are three sons, Leonard Martin of Harrisburg, Vincent Martin and Gary Martin, both of Stonefort; two daughters, Lenore Martin of Granite City and Mary Templeton of Carrier Mills; one sister, Opal Yahne of Carrier Mills; 19 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Renita Jackson, three sisters, and one brother.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stonefort Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Paul Noe will officiate and burial will be in Little Saline Cemetery with military rites by Harrisburg and Carrier Mills Legions.

Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills and after 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
