Rev. Vincent Rev. Vincent I. Bellwoar, S.J., 83, a member of the original group of Jesuits who came to the University of Scranton in 1942 when the school was transferred to the administration of the Society of Jesus, died Monday at Georgetown University. A native of Philadelphia, Father Bellwoar attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School, from which he entered the Society of Jesus in 1924. He made his novitiate and early studies in the humanities at Poughkeepsie, N.Y. After teaching for three years at Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y., he pursued higher studies in philosophy and theology at Woodstock College in Maryland, where he was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1937. Over the next three decades, he taught theology at Georgetown, the University of Scranton and Canisius. From 1955 to 1957, he served as an assistant pastor of Old St. Joseph's Parish in Philadelphia. At Georgetown, he also was the University Archivist (1966-1971), and assisted with the Glee Club and Student Personnel Office. Surviving is a brother, Rev. John Bellwoar, S. J., Washington, D.C. Viewing will be held Wednesday, 7 to 9, and Thursday, 3 to 5, at the Jesuit Community Chapel, Georgetown. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at Dahlgren Chapel, Georgetown, with burial at Georgetown.
