Warren Everett Heider, 85, of Marinette, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2012, at Trinity Village Rehab Center in Milwaukee surrounded by family. Warren was born October 23, 1926, the son of Elmer and Myrtle Ann (Hebert) Heider.
Warren graduated from Menominee High School in 1944. In his senior year of high school, he started working for Lauerman Brothers Department Store in the paint department.
He was drafted into the Army in 1945 and served as an Army cook stateside. Following his service with the Army, he returned to Lauerman's and stayed in the paint department, eventually becoming the department manager in 1978. As Lauerman's started shutting down in 1987, he and his son, Daniel, bought the paint and wallpaper department and formed Heider Wallpaper and Paint.
He continued to work at the store daily, including bringing his morning bag of donuts, right up until his recent illness.
He married Irene Wiltzius on May 9, 1953, at St. Joseph's Church in Marinette. She preceded him in death on June 19, 1989. He was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Menominee, serving on several committees and also a member of the Menominee American Legion Post. Warren loved everyone, especially his family. He never missed a family gathering, celebrating milestones, cheering on the Packers and playing cards. He also found enjoyment in crossword puzzles and sketching. Warren was known in the area for his dance floor prowess.
Warren is survived by his son, Daniel (Ann) Heider of Marinette, along with their three daughters: Kristin (BJ) Cavill, Alison (Jeremy) Husbeck and Jenny (Dan Blomberg) Heider; his son, Leo (Sally) Podoski of Neenah and their daughter, Rachel; his son, Gerald Podoski of Marinette; his son, Steve (Carolyn) Podoski of Peshtigo and their daughter, Katie; and a daughter, Lydia (Bob Boivin) Krajewski of Peshtigo along with her daughters: Sara (Greg) Frederiksen and Vicki (Kevin Kopish) Krajewski. Besides his seven granddaughters, Warren enjoyed seven great-grandchildren: Peyton, Layla, Layce, Blake, Bryce, Emalee and Eva. Warren is further survived by two brothers: Roland (Lois) of Racine and David of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his beloved wife, Irene, and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Victor and his wife Bernice; his sister, Betty and her husband, Ralph Peterson; a sister-in-law, Shirley Heider; a son-in-law, Daniel Krajewski; and a wonderful friend, Louise Schneider.
Friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, Marinette, after 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2012. The Menominee American Legion will hold a visitation at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m.
Final interment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to a memorial fund will be appreciated.
