RACINE - Roland “Wally” Heider, 89, passed away in Ascension-All Saints on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Menominee, MI on August 7,1928, the son of the late Elmer and Myrtle (nee: Hebert) Heider. Wally served his country with the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1949. On June 27, 1953, in Baltimore, MD, he was united in marriage to Carrie Lois Mead. He had been employed by Goldblatts, Coast to Coast Hardware, and finally, JC Penny. Wally attended Calvary Memorial Church, a member of the American Legion Post #310, the Northside Businessmen, an avid Green Bay Packer and Michigan State fan, he served as Quartermaster and Assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, co-president of the Racine Council and Gilbert Knapp PTA, Treasurer of the Elmwood Plaza “Who Cares” bowling league, called square dancing, played Santa Claus for the PTA and private events, was known for his puns and jokes, enjoyed puzzles, playing cribbage, and spending time with the family. Wally was named “Father of the Year” for the city of Racine. Surviving are his wife, Carrie “Lois” Heider; children, Deborah (Neal) Lehrer, Donna (Mike) Dhennin, and Arlie (Renee) Heider, Lehrer grandchildren, Timothy, Jeremy (Jill), Andrew (Min Ju), Matthew (Rachel), Amanda, Rebecca (Sam) Womack, Dhennin grandchildren, Erin (David) Grinhaug, Heather (Peter) Flaherty, April (Kyle) Stachewicz, Heider grandchildren, Anthony (Lisa); Lehrer great grandchildren, Briana, Cameran, Jack, Sienna (Trenton) Hinze, Emily, Eli, Ethan, Ian, Alexia and Austin Womack, Grinhaug great grandchildren, Alli, Addison, Anabelle, Stachewicz great grandchildren, Calvin, Owen, and Elijah, Heider great grandchildren, Angelis, Kimberlynn; and soon to be one Hinze great-great grandchild. His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive him. In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by his granddaughter Tia Heider, sister, Betty (Ralph) Peterson; brothers, Victor (Bernice), Warren (Irene) and David (Shirley) Heider. His funeral service will be held, in the funeral home, on Monday, June 25th at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Nathan James officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and in the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. The family has requested memorials be made to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, or the Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin (the Veteran Village of Racine). A special thanks to Dr. Durbin for the excellent care over the years, Dr. Turner, the nursing staff, especially Amy and Jill, and the excellent ER staff at Ascension All Saints. The wonderful rescue teams that came to the house regularly, and our neighbors, the Kuehnl family for their friendship and support.
