John David Rogers was born in Arcadia on Nov. 7, 1917, and died on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, as a resident of Denham Springs at 94 years old. We are so proud of the life he lived. John was in the U.S. Air Force during World War II when he was shot down over the North Sea and spent almost 2 years in German prisoner camps. He was a member of the Red Stick Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War. He was known as Johnny when he retired from Ethyl Corp. and met with fellow retirees throughout his life. He married his current wife when he was 62 years old and they have been married 31 years. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church for many years. Other accomplishments included playing golf throughout his life, and at one point he was a member of an octagenerian group of golfers. He played several instruments including guitar, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica with the Sunshine Band that entertained several nursing homes. He was also a lifelong fan of the LSU Tigers. He had a love of books on the Civil War and World War II, kept a large garden and made birdhouses. He constantly amazed us with the busy schedule of activities he maintained even into his 90s. He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus Jackson and Lulu Rogers; a sister, and five bothers, Hazel R. McGinn, Harry, Gus, Bob, James and Bill Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Nell Felder Rogers; his daughters, Linda Claire Rogers and Debbie Clark; two grandchildren, Alexandra and John-Mikel Ross Clark; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Grace Perry; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, was on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, Friday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Larry Hubbard. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Please visit www.sealefuneral.com to sign the online registry book.
