Elma E. Honstein, 96, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering, NE. She was born July 23, 1907, at Hoisington, KS, the daughter of Fred and Marie (Bender) Roehrick. The family moved to the Bayard, Nebraska area in 1915. She was married to Henry E. Honstein on April 25, 1924, at Blue Earth, MN. To this union, six children were born. In 1941, the couple moved back to Nebraska, settling in the Minatare area where they farmed. A few years later, they moved to the Morrill area where they farmed until Henry's death in 1962. In 1976, Elma moved to a home on the Bob and Lorraine Thomas farm south of Mitchell. She resided in her own residence until moving to Heritage Health Care Center in Gering in December of 2000. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Harry E. and Helen Honstein of Hay Springs, NE, Floyd L. and Ruth Honstein of Yoder, WY, and Ronald F. Honstein of Lyman, NE; daughters and sons-in-law, Elsie I and Rudy Wacker of Alliance, NE, Lorraine N. and Robert Thomas of Mitchell, NE, and Gladys D. Lyman of Highland, CA; 24 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildfren. She is also survived by brother, Edward Roehrick, half-sisters, Elsie (Leis) Kraft and Leona (Leis) Majersic; and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Paul (Dee) Roehrick and Mrs. Herbert (Molly) Roehrick. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandsons Joey Wilhelm and Danny Honstein; one great-grandson; one great-great grandson; sister Emma Michael; brothers Paul, Herbert and Ted Roehrick, and half-brother Melvin Leis. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell, NE, with Rev. Rick Reisig and Pastor Dan Johnson officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery near Morrill.
