Marion served during the Civil War as a Confederate soldier. He inlisted in 1864 in Izard County, Arkansas. Company "G", Freemans Regiment, Missouri Cavalry. Marion was taken prisoner by Union Troops on May 11, 1865 and paroled on June 5, 1865 in Jacksonport, Jackson County, Arkansas.
Shortly after the war, in 1866 Marion married Mary "Polly" Ann Blankenship. They had five children together. Polly passed away in in late 1880 - early 1881.
Marion married for the second time to Martha Clementine Ivie on December 18, 1881 in Clay County, Arkansas. Marion and Martha had one child, a daughter. Julie Francis Green.
On January 10, 1909 in Izard County, Arkansas Marion married his third wife, Mary "Mollie" Ellen Williams. This was a third marriage for both of them, Mary being married twice before. She had four children from the two previous marriage's.
