In a covered wagon the family moved to Bureau County, Illinois and later to Marengo, Iowa County, Iowa, where she became a member of the Methodist Church. When 16 the family moved to a farm northwest of Deep River, Poweshiek County, Iowa
She was married to John Ammann on March 25, 1878. To this union five children were born; two sons, Joseph and Albert and three daughters, Amanda, Mary and Bertha. One son, Albert, died in infancy.
