John Ammann died May 5, 1914 after having a surgical operation the same day. Interment in the Montezuma Cemetery.

John Michael Ammann the son of Joseph Frederick and Magdalena Christiania Weiser Ammann born August 1, 1840 at Kirchberg, Germany.

He came to America with his parents in 1846 settling in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Later the family moved to Rock Island County, Illinois where he resided until 1866 when he came to Poweshiek County, Iowa.

During the Civil War he enlisted in the Union Army and was a member of Company K, 58th Illinois Infantry. Served for one year and was discharged on March 19, 1866.

He was married to Ucelia M Harrington on March 25, 1878. To this union five children were born; two sons, Joseph and Albert and three daughters, Amanda, Mary and Bertha. On son, Albert died in infancy
