Dixon Bills, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at his home in Syracuse, Utah with his family by his side.

He was born to Ervin and LaPreal Bills on October 8, 1922 in Payson, Utah. He grew up in Payson and played basketball for Payson High School. He graduated in 1940. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on December 11, 1942 and after completing basic training was sent to Europe to fight Germany in World War II, he was part of the second wave of U.S. troops to land on Omaha Beach at Normandy, France.

After the war Dixon returned home to Payson and on April 4, 1946 he married his longtime sweetheart Elaine Peterson of Spanish Fork, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on January 30, 1964. They were blessed with three children Brent, Jerry and Vicki Lynn.

Dixon worked for Metz Baking Company for many years as a route salesman retiring in 1985. Dixon and Elaine moved to Syracuse, Utah in 2005 so they could be closer to their son and his wife and their grandchildren. The family has many fond memories and lots of funny stories to share about vacations and time spent with Grandpa Dick.

The family would like to thank the staff of Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation and Vista Care for their dedication, kindness, and care.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years Elaine; one son Brent and his wife Merlene; two grandchildren Justin (Cassy) Bills; Keri Lynn (Shawn) Lueders; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one brother; his son Jerry; his daughter Vicki Lynn; and one grandson Wade Bills.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Spanish Fork Cemetery. There will be no viewing per our father's request.
