Eldon George Nickolaus was born December 5, 1913 in the family home near Stockham, Nebraska; and departed from this earthly life on May 10, 1982 at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 5 days.

Eldon was the son of Jacob and Matilda (George) Nickolaus, and grew to manhood in the Stockham area. After graduation from Stockham High School in 1930 he farmed in the Stockham area with his father and brothers until 1940.

On June 1, 1940 Eldon was united in marriage to Pearl Crystal Bakewell, the daughter of Merritt and Serena Bakewell, in the Bakewell home.

Eldon and Pearl farmed east of Stockham until 1942, when they moved to a new farm northeast of Hampton. To this union were born four children; Michael Eldon in 1942, James Merritt in 1946, Gloria Ruth in 1948 and Fairy Faith in 1952. In 1960 the family moved one mile west to the present family home. In was in this home that Eldon quietly left this earthly life to be reunited with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His son Jim was with him during his last moments.

Eldon accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age and along with Pearl raised their family in a Christian environment. There were active in many church and community activities; and had attended the Stockham Methodist, Hampton Methodist, Pleasant View Bible, Bethel Mission and the Aurora Evangelical Free Churches. Eldon gave freely of his time and support to each of the churches they attended. He assisted in the foundation of the Nebraska Christian School and gave continuing support for his deep commitment to providing Christian education. Eldon was also an active participant in the Awana and Bible Club ministries. He also provided financial support for a number of missionaries and loved to open his home for them whenever they visited during their furlough.

He often shared his neighbors and friends of his time and soft spoken words in time of need and sorrow.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; 1 sister, Ella Rollo; and 4 brothers, Harlan, Harold, Emil and Arno.

He is survived by his four children; Michael Eldon of South Sioux City, Nebraska, James Merritt of Hampton, Nebraska, Gloria Ruth ( Mrs. Dwight Lehman) of York, Pennsylvania and Fairy Faith (Mrs. Richard Hattan) of Hampton, Nebraska; and 10 grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished.

We know because of his faith and salvation that Eldon is rejoicing in his reunion with his Lord, family and friends. And for those who knew Eldon, his testimony will continue to speak for him.
