Mary Caroline Mobley was born in Texas and spent her childhood and adolescent years on a hardscrabble Texas farm with gentle, loving parents and six siblings. She made good grades in High School where she was interested in writing and speaking. She won an essay contest there and another later at Baylor College for "Making the Most Progress in English." She taught in a rural one-room schoolhouse for three years before marrying Louis Kimbrough and moving to Ventura, California. During World War II she was a volunteer aircraft spotter and she served as president of the PTA at Mill School.

In 1947, Louis, Carrie and their four children moved to Rocklin, California. Her activities in and contributions to the Rocklin community through the years were many; she worked at the Rocklin Post Office from 1959 to 1973 during which time she volunteered each Christmas to answer all the children's letters to Santa Clause; she was treasurer and secretary for the Community Covenant Church and was on the Church Council; she served on the Board of Directors of the Easter Seal Society of Placer County; served on the Rocklin School District Board of trustees; was Deputy Registrar for Placer County voters; organized mothers to work in the snack bar at the Little League Park; was a Campfire Girl leader; was a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church, Roseville; helped with immunization clinics for school children; and assisted in establishing the Rocklin-Loomis-Penryn Blood Bank where she became multi-gallon donor.

Carrie was a very loving, understanding mother who always had time for her children's scrapes, issues and problems. She and Louis loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing and camping - and happily engaged their children in these wholesome activities. In 1976 she was named one of nine California Merit Mothers of the Year.

The Pastor of the Community Covenant Church she attended for many years summed it up by saying: "She is a person who is always there when needed and is the first to respond in her loving and quiet manner to offer her heart and hands for the task. She is that kind of person who so aptly fulfills the Biblical admonition ‘if someone compels you to walk a mile, walk two' "
