Per the old parish records from Minnigaff Scotland , "Samuel Lamont + Janet Shaw had an illegitimate son, Robert, born February 5th, baptized June 19, 1842." OPR Records/1551639.
Robert was born is Scotland, came to the US in 1842, lived 6 years in New York State, and then came to Madison, WI in 1849. He was listed as a "Special Student" at the University of Wisconsin. Madison in 1865. In January of 1867, he traveled by covered wagon to Aurora, Nebraska to homestead. On the trip, he met is soon to be wife. He was very prominent in Aurora and was the first postmaster.
