Though not unexpected, the death of Dr. S. J. Alexander, one among our best and most respected citizens, which occurred Saturday night, has caused heartfelt grief among all citizens who know him. He was a model man, a skilled physician and a consistent christian. He had lived here many years, and had endeared himself to all with whom he came in contact. For some years past he had been a member of the Medical Board of Pension Examiners, having held that position through several Administrations. He leaves a wife and seven children, five sons and two daughters, to mourn his death. - Public Press 08 Apr 1891
