Alice Gudel, 84, of Galt, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2012. She was born to John and Anna Bissig on June 13, 1927 in San Francisco. She graduated from Balboa High School in 1945. Following high school, she and her parents moved to Galt where she met her soulmate Fred Gudel. Fred and Alice were married in April 1949. Although she was an only child, she was welcomed with loving arms into the Gudel family, gaining six brothers and sisters.

From 1946 to 1949 Alice worked at the Sego Milk Plant in Galt. After raising their children, she worked as the administrative secretary for the Superintendent of the Galt High School District until she retired in 1982.

In 1954 Fred and Alice purchased the family farm from Fred's parents, Ernest and Marie Gudel, who had originally bought the farm in 1911. They moved to Galt in March of 2002, where Alice was thrilled to finally have air conditioning and an attached garage.

Alice treasured most the time she spent with her family and friends, and especially enjoyed attending Swiss functions, playing games and cards, gardening, and traveling. She was a member of the San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club, the Galt Historical Society, St. Christopher's Catholic Church.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Fred, and parents John and Anna Bissig.

She is survived by her children Linda Graham, of Galt; Ernie (Valerie) Gudel, of Fair Oaks; John (Kathy) Gudel, of Elk Grove; and Mary Ann (Terry) Fena, of Lodi, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Alice was well loved by all who knew her and we will forever miss her.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 950 S. Lincoln Way, Galt.

Interment will be private.
