Capt. Martin was a veteran of the War of 1812. He served from 1812 until 1814 with Capt.John Dillars's company, Col James Goodwin's regiment in Gen. Taylor's brigade. He was a Capt of a 24 Pound gun at Craney Island, Virginia. After the death of his first wife Belinda, he married Alice Conn and moved his family to Lincoln County, Missouri in 1841. There he served in the Missouri Militia from 1844-1847 fighting what was called the Slicker's War. By 1850 the family was living in Jasper County, Missouri. Later they moved back to Lincoln County, where they were living when Lewis past away.
