Atlantic News-Telegraph, Saturday December 5, 1953, page 1: Edgar D. Acker, 85, Dies Today At Orient Home
Edgar D. Acker, 85, of Orient, former resident of Atlantic, died at 4 o'clock this morning at the Case nursing home, Orient, where he had resided since December, 1951. He had been in failing health several years.
Mr. Acker was born near Atlantic [actually, in Pennsylvania] Sept. 10, 1868, the son of George S. and Elizabeth Gist[Geist] Acker. He grew to manhood here and was engaged in construction work as a young man, later farming with his brother, Jake, near Prescott for a number of years. He resided in Fontanelle prior to going to the Orient nursing home two years ago.
Surviving are a brother, Charles H. Acker of Chicago and a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by eight brothers [listed] and a sister, Mrs. E. E. Harris. Funeral rites will be held at the Roland funeral home Monday afternoon at 1:30, the Rev. J. M. Steffenson officiating. .... Atlantic cemetery.
